Plot

Thank you for your cooperation

"Thank you for your cooperation"

Bacon City is home to clusters of homeless Bacon Hairs living on the dangerous streets, but in the area of an open alleyway, a Curfew Bot begins approaches a homeless Bacon Hair and repeatedly orders him to depart the streets immediately. The homeless man attempts to reason with the robot; explaining how he lives on the streets and has nowhere else to go. Despite this, the Curfew Bot ignores his statements and instantly launches a mechanical hand hook at the man's torso and electrocutes him to death. The Curfew Bot then thanks him for his cooperation before dragging him away as a masked bacon hair gazes at them from a distance.

The news reporter is concerned about the rising number of homeless people on the streets and the increasing poverty rate. He urges viewers to remain vigilant and not go outside after curfew. He also advises them to report any individuals they suspect to be in affiliation with The Resistance, which he labels as a terrorist organization.

Zayden, the main character, is having dinner with his father. He asks his father for more food, but his father tells him that they can't afford more. Zayden's father then gives his food to Zayden, but Zayden gives the food back to his father because he doesn't want his father to go hungry. His father chuckles and tells him he knows when his son is lying. The father returns the food to Zayden, believing he needs it more than himself. He reminds Zayden to appreciate everything he has and not to forget how fortunate they are to have a safe place to live in, with a roof over their heads. He also tells Zayden that some people live outside on the dangerous streets.

Zayden washes his hands in the kitchen's sink, and goes to check a semi-open door, containing a deactivated curfew bot inside. His father quickly rushes to close it, telling him he can't go in there as it's his private study, and that he must get some sleep so he doesn't miss out school the next day. Zayden goes to sleep and dreams about his mother getting shot by masked bacon hairs on a rainy night, as one of them stares at him in a very stern manner. He quickly wakes up from the nightmare and cries over his dead mother, looking at his family photo.

In class, Zayden apologizes to Kenzie for not listening to her, as he was distracted thinking about the nightmare he had last night. Kenzie asks him if he's heard the rumors of people going missing at night, and Zayden tells her it was caused by The Resistance. The teacher asks Zayden what he knows about the city wall, and he answers it was built a very long time ago to protect them from the dangers of the outside. The teacher confirms the validity of Zayden's answer and says that's why no one is allowed to go over the wall as it's for their own protection. Kenzie asks the teacher how they know it's dangerous inside, and he answers it's just wastelands and there's nothing good out there. Kenzie asks where the curfew bots come from, but the teacher doesn't know, only knowing they're there to protect them from The Resistance and that's all that matters. After that he continues with the lesson as normal, but Kenzie tells Zayden she's got something to show him after school, saying she'll meet him at the east wall, but it's a secret so he can't tell anyone.

Zayden and Kenzie meet at the east wall, and he asks her why they're going to the sewers, but is told by her to just shush and follow her. While walking across the sewers, Kenzie tells him she's been on the other side of the wall, and Zayden rightfully doubts it, but she shows him a crack she found last week, which takes them to the other side. Zayden realises the outside is not wastelands but actually a beautiful forest as he'd never seen one before in his life, and he asks why the city would lie to them about it, since there's nothing dangerous out there. Kenzie bets Zayden won't find her, so they start playing hide and seek, and as Zayden finishes hiding, he notices Primrose sitting on the tree, then she jumps from it and introduces herself to him, he introduces himself as well and explains he's playing hide and seek with his friend, so they start climbing the tree for a better hiding spot. Zayden asks her who she is, as he's never seen someone with pink hair before, and Primrose tells him she's a guest and they have blue and pink hair. Zayden claims he's never seen a guest before and asks her where she's from, but Primrose tells him that's a secret. Zayden almost falls from the tree but Primrose helps him out. Upon climbing to the top of the tree, they sit down and start a conversation, Zayden asks her why she's here and she tells him she ran away from home but can't tell him why or anything else because she'll be in a lot of trouble if the guests find her, but she's confident they'll never catch her as the forest is really large. Primrose asks Zayden as well, calling him a bacon hair, and he quickly gets defensive saying he's not called bacon hair, and she laughs, telling him his hair looks like bacon, they continue laughing and he shows her the wall of Bacon City from up above. Kenzie calls for Zayden and he gets down from the tree, she asks him why he was on a tree, but he just says it's a long story, then asking her if she's ever heard of a guest before, however she has not, so he says he'll tell her on the way back, and they start walking back home as the sun sets.

At the dinner table, Kenzie asks her dad, Mr. K, what a guest is, and he asks her where she's heard that from, so she tells him Zayden saw one when they were playing in the forest. Mr. K gets upset over her daughter playing outside the wall again, telling her to never go there ever again, because if the legends are true, and guests do really exist, then Zayden and Kenzie are incredibly lucky to be alive, saying they will be in grave danger if it's actually true. Mr. K tells Kenzie to never speak of this to anyone and to promise him she will not go outside the wall ever again.

As the sun rises, Zayden is awakened by his father and brought to the kitchen. The father wishes Zayden a happy birthday and gives him a hand-made doll of Zayden's mother as a birthday present which took him weeks to make. Zayden sheds tears of joy and thanks his father for the gift, claiming it to be the best birthday present ever. The father says he knows he couldn't get much for his son's birthday, but prepared one more surprise for him later. At dusk, the father takes Zayden to the local pizzeria, and Zayden is very happy to see a real pizza for the first time in years, as the father says it's his son's favourite. Suddenly the father and son realise the curfew bots are outside earlier than supposed, and Zayden is told to get behind the counter immediately to hide from the curfew bots. The father tells the curfew bots it's not past curfew yet and asks why they're already out on the streets. Zayden is told by his father everything will be okay, but the father is zapped by a curfew bot, falling to the ground and then being dragged away.

Zayden cries about his father's death and goes on to live with the homeless people for several days, hugging his doll with only one arm. An old man approaches Zayden asking him what the object is, and Zayden then tells him it's the last thing his father gave him before he was taken away. The old man apologises for Zayden's loss, telling him he now knows the truth about the curfew bots, and that he should be careful, as the curfew bots come out when the sky starts to rumble since the thunder hides the screams of the ones being executed by the curfew bots. The old man goes on to rant about the people of privilege getting to live in their warm, safe homes while the homeless people have to fight for their lives every night on the cold dangerous streets. Zayden is told to not bother telling anyone the truth as no one will believe him, and that the old man has tried countless times to warn people about the curfew bots, but they just think he’s a crazy old man, as he doubts himself for a second wondering if he actually is. The old man tells Zayden to better be going as the storm is getting worse and the curfew bots will be upon them shortly.

The old man points out it’s already too late and the curfew bots have already arrived, so everyone on scene starts running away for their lives, except for the old man. Zayden promptly asks him why he’s not running away, and the old man tells him he’s tired of running away and his race has come to an end, then telling Zayden to run away while he still has the chance. The curfew bot zaps the old man and Zayden starts running away, as watches the homeless people being zapped one by one, so he keeps running away and being chased by the curfew bots until he’s cornered and grabbed by one, until a blue-eyed curfew bot saves his life. Zayden passes out upon looking at the robot.

It is now morning, and Zayden wakes up in the forest. The blue-eyed curfew bot keeps bringing him fruits, and Zayden thanks it and asks why it saved him, but the robot does not respond. Zayden asks if it has a name, but the robot indicates it doesn’t, so Zayden names him Guesty since he looks like a guest. Guesty now speaks his own name, and Zayden introduces himself to Guesty, trying to shake his hand, but Guesty does not, so Zayden tells him he’s meant to shake his hand, which they promptly do. Zayden takes out a black sharpie pen, drawing a rudimentary but friendly smile on Guesty’s face. Guesty says “Danger, humanoid detected”, bringing out his claw to the tree, making Primrose fall from it. Primrose greets Zayden asking if his friend always introduces himself like that, to which Zayden agrees. He introduces her to his friend Guesty, which Primrose believes to look kind of scary, but Zayden thinks otherwise. Primrose shakes hands with Guesty asking him if he wants to be her friend, and Guesty responds with “friends forever”, which Zayden and Primrose promptly repeat. The three friends play around in the forest and spend their days and nights together through the seasons and months. Fast forward about a year, Zayden and Primrose are sleeping next to each other under a tree at night. Guesty approaches the two kids and sits next to them laying his head on theirs, then saying “friends forever” once more.

A few hours later, Guesty gets up and says “Danger, humanoid detected”, waking up Zayden and Primrose. She tells him it’s the president and the guests will have them surrounded by now, indicating no possibility of escape. Guesty tells them to climb up the tree, but Zayden asks what about him, and Guesty responds with “Guesty protect friends”. Primrose tells Zayden they need to go now, so they quickly climb up the tree.

A group of four guests in black come grappling down from the trees, and another two guests appear from behind Guesty. A man in white, the president, walks towards Guesty, claiming the situation to be fascinating, and asking why is one of his creations doing out there all alone in the forest, pondering that it’s possibly because it’s not actually alone. The president is impressed that a bacon hair managed to rewire one of his creations, previously believing the bacon hairs were unable of intellect to do such. The president asks Guesty where Primrose is, but he promptly refuses. The president insists but Guesty says he’ll protect his friends, which in turn makes the president order the agents to take Guesty down. The guest agents and Guesty start fighting, and Primrose tells Zayden she has to go, blaming herself for the situation, saying they’ll leave Zayden and Guesty alone if she lets them take her. But Zayden is worried about what they would do to her, so she insists to not worry about her, and there are many things she wishes to tell Zayden but can’t, and wishes they had the time to be together, but Guesty won’t be able to hold off the guest agents much longer. Primrose tells Zayden to leave the forest permanently and pretend she never existed. They both shed tears of sadness and Zayden tells her he can’t do it, but Primrose tells him he must promise to do it. They hug and say how much they’ll miss each other, making themselves and Guesty repeat the words “Friends forever” one last time. Guesty loses his grip against the guest agents and is brought down to the floor. Primrose jumps down from the tree and says she’ll go back with them if they release Guesty. The president asks Primrose to tell him about her bacon hair friend, which she declines promptly, so he asks the agents to grab Zayden, referring to him as “it”, in a sub-humane manner. The president claims to be delighted to see a bacon hair in person, and apologises for what he’s about to do, telling him it’s nothing personal and that he simply can’t afford having the bacon hairs find out about it, and that Zayden knows too much. Guesty wakes up and zaps the two guest agents, releasing Zayden who then runs away upon Primrose yelling at him to do so. The president orders the other agents to go after Zayden, who shoots their guns but fail, as Guesty catches up to Zayden and leads him to safety. Zayden looks back and Primrose tries to run away but is detained by the guest agents, as the two kids cry.

Zayden and Guesty are now back at bacon city, and Guesty stops walking to conserve energy. Zayden asks if he’s okay, and Guesty responds with “Humanoid detected” in a low battery fashion. It is now that masked bacon hairs appear from all sides, cornering the two. Some of them are holding a crowbar, while others carry a pistol, and Bacon Soldier 4 says “Well fellas, look what we have here”.
